A note from Dr. Pantaleno about attending his Workshop:  I am delighted to let you know that I will be gracing the halls of Albert Ellis Institute with its first Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workshop, on Friday April 16, 2010, 1:30 to 4:30, at 45 East 65th Street in Manhattan.  Registration is $40 for professionals, $10 for full-time students with student ID.  To register online: click here. When asked "How did you learn about this workshop?", please click on the dropdown menu box and select "From the workshop presenter." I would love to see your friendly faces in the audiences.  Please encourage your graduate students to attend as well.  They'll get a good overview of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and get into active mindfulness practices.

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) Treatment Programs on Long Island

While I routinely teach DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills to individuals who may benefit from learning such skills, I do not offer the skills group component of DBT treatment.  The centers listed below offer this service and I have listed them here for your information.

What this means is that in addition to a weekly individual therapy appointment, clients (and sometimes parents) are required to participate in a weekly “skills group,” which teaches the core DBT skills of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.  This group does not operate like a traditional supportive psychotherapy group, but more like an interactive college course in coping skills.  Participants typically participate in both the individual and group therapy components for at least six months to one year.  The individual and skills group therapists work as part of a team and consult regularly as treatment proceeds.

If you elect to seek treatment at one of these programs, you will contract to use their individual therapists.  I am in no way affiliated with any of these programs, but do routinely refer those adolescents and young adults who may need both components of DBT treatment.  I have listed Suffolk DBT first as they are located closest to my office, but the other groups are all equally qualified and trained to provide the full complement of DBT services.  Please visit the web sites below for additional information, and let the intake therapist know that I referred you.
